SHOOT - I DIDN'T MEAN THAT

Catriona Kerridge (after Kraus' Last days of Mankind)
2015. National Theatre Shed
Dir Catriona Kerridge

The stage, given an apocalyptic stony cliff-like look by designer Mike Lees, is no longer broken up into three segments but is entirely filled with the mayhem of fight and death. The four female performers, equipped with gas masks, become soldiers, hyenas and ruthless war correspondents. Highlighting humanity's inability to learn from past mistakes this designer blends references to wars from different centuries into the picture.
EXEUNT ANNEGRET MARTEN

The epilogue of Kraus's play is presented in a haunting way, with the help of remarkable costume, stage and lighting design. Innovative elements make the production appealing: the actors use choreographed movement such as marching and a video collage that ends the performance with horrifying images of different wars is utilised.
